Federal Lead Free Legislation

Federal Public Law 111-380 eliminates the sale or installation of plumbing fixtures with a wetted surface area containing more than a weighted average of 0.25% lead, specifically drinking water pipes, pipe fittings and plumbing fixtures.

The new standard does not apply to pipes, pipe fittings, plumbing fittings or fixtures that are used exclusively for non-potable services such as manufacturing, industrial processing, irrigation, outdoor watering, or any other uses where water is not anticipated to be used for human consumption. The law also specifically excludes toilets, bidets, urinals, fill valves, flushometer valves, tub fillers, shower valves, service saddles, or water distribution main gate valves that are 2 inches in diameter or larger.

Exemptions

Sioux Chief offers many products that are not anticipated for use in drinking water applications. These products used in non-potable water supply are not subject to Federal Public Law 111-380.

Product Marking

Sioux Chief will sell standard brass product beyond the Jan 4, 2014 date and will identify the product by marking the packaging as "ILLEGAL TO USE FOR POTABLE SERVICES. TO BE USED EXCLUSIVELY FOR NON-POTABLE APPLICATIONS." Some products and assemblies can be used within no lead systems. See product marking page for details on no lead specific products.
